The company Potain was established within La Clayette, France in 1928. Ever since that time, the company has grown into a leading producer of cranes. The company is responsible for more than 100,000 cranes in operation around the globe. Currently, the company manufacturers over 60 models from various production facilities in France, China, Portugal, Germany and Italy. The family of Potain cranes are divided into different tower crane families. The smallest cranes manufactured by Potain are the self-erecting cranes. These cranes range from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes which are both higher and larger. These cranes range from 7.98 to 64 tons. Additionally, these are the largest special application cranes that are custom-designed. These units provide a reach capacity of one hundred sixty tons.

The company's top innovations comprise LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The growing reputation of the company has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are usually found on conventional construction sites, bridge building projects, power stations, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.

Manitowoc has 2 of their biggest manufacturing facilities within the USA. The Manitowoc manufacturing facility is situated in the state of Wisconsin. In this state, both the tower crane parts and crawler cranes are constructed within the state of Pennsylvania in the Shady Grove facility. Here mobile cranes and boom trucks are manufactured. Regional offices are located within Brazil and within Mexico. Additionally, the extensive dealer network located throughout Surprise and the United States provides support and coverage unrivalled by any other crane producer.
