Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to make an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is ideal for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machines use either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator will have to move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is specifically made for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform that houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is very essential to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
