Forklift trucks are essential pieces of machinery utilized widely in business, particularly within warehouses, distribution centers, industrial and storage handling plants. A lift truck is constructed of hundreds of components, like the carriage, the cab, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Lift trucks usually have a range of attachments too. The following are a few of the most important parts of a forklift.

Engine of the Forklift - the lift truck is designed with a power source at the rear of the machinery. Various types of lift trucks have different kinds of engine which need varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an internal combustion engine can have as its power source any of the following: LP gas, CNG gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.

Truck Frame - the base of the forklift truck and the most essential of all the lift truck parts is the frame of the truck. This forms the core of the equipment. All other parts of a lift truck are attached to the base, including the overhead guard, counterweight, axles, mast and wheels. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks may also be part of the frame assembly.

Counterweight Forklift Parts - the counterweight is what allows the equipment to be balanced while lifting heavy loads. This component is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the rear-end of the forklift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and could work as part of the counterweight.

The Cab Area - The cab is also referred to as the operator compartment. Lift trucks would sometimes have closed cabs while others would be open to the air. There are really many components situated within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such important parts like the seats, pedals, switches, levers, steering wheel and operator controls. The dashboard has operator readouts.
