Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Forklifts need a proper maintenance program to help increase the equipments lifespan and is an important factor in allowing the machine to run safely and effectively. Completing regular forklift check ups and doing preventive maintenance regularly would help to guarantee the safe and efficient operation of the machine.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an important tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists will help to document any and all potential issues. They are required by the OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The daily checklists can also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators must complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major problems are found, the forklift is not to be put into service until the issue has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
Each year roughly 100 individuals are injured in forklift accidents in the United States. Statistics show that about 20,000 individuals would be injured seriously as a result of a forklift mishap. This number represents 54 people a day, 7 days a week, for the entire year. A lot of these mishaps could be easily prevented if the forklift had been properly maintained and serviced. In some circumstances, it might seem like a cost savings to delay or skip routine maintenance, although, these savings would pale in comparison to the cost of a single mishap.
Things to be Serviced
In the owner's manual of each machinery, the manufacturer would include a maintenance schedule. These schedules would vary greatly, depending on the manufacturer and the kind of machine. Each schedule will consist of various basic things. Like for example, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil would have to be periodically replaced. Hydraulic levels will have to be checked as well. Be sure to inspect hoses for any indications of cracking. Other items involve the transmission, the electrical systems and the brakes of the forklift.
