Tower Crane Parts
Several of the most remarkable structures throughout the world are built using cranes. The newer cranes are utilized to be able to reach higher heights. Tower cranes provide the means to raise and move materials, tools and building parts all around a construction location. There are various parts that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machinery.

Base
The tower crane base is normally made from a steel unit. The base of the unit connects to a custom pad made of concrete. This set-up provides the structure with stability. Overall, the construction must be engineered and built well in order to operate at optimum safety.

Mast
The tower crane's mast provides the machinery with its overall height. The mast is constructed out of individual steel sections which are attached together. The amount of parts determines the crane's height. Usually, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding more sections as the building process continues. This way the crane's height could be specified, ensuring it has enough height to perform the required work efficiently and safely.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
Over the mast is the slewing unit. It houses the motor and machinery which enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machine that allows the mast to grow. The top climber is situated just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber enable the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.

Boom
"Boom" is a term which particularly refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made of steel parts attached together, that extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley attached to the underside which can run the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting device.
