On the rear side there is a counterweight attached to the truck. This specific counterweight counterbalances the cargo that is being lifted so as to keep the machine stable.

The equipment's movements are dictated by the operator who sits in the cab. The overhead feature likely consists of a metal roof made to protect the operator from falling things. Hydraulic tilt cylinders mounted to the frame and the mast. These tilts pivot the mast so as to engage the load. The mast is a vertical assembly which lifts and lowers the load with the interlocking rails to provide lateral stability.
